Trevi (the history)
Trevi was originally a pagus umbro or Umbrian subtribal area, then a Roman municipality located on the flatlands, in the village of Pietrarossa, along the secondary road of the Flaminia roadway. It was a Longobard territory under the Duchy of Spoleto and governed by the noble classes. It became a free municipality at the beginning of the 13th century. After various historical events and controversies, only in 1398 did Pope Boniface IX recognizes Trevi as a free government. Towards the mid 15th century Trevi definitively became a part of the Papal State. In 1470 the first printing works in Umbria and the fourth in Italy, was established there. In 1784 it obtained the title of city from Pius VI and in 1860 it became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
