The RUSTICO is in Montefalco, Umbria, an area of great interest for its local food and wines, such as the well known Sagrantino, which together with the "Rosso di Montefalco" is appreciated all over the world.
The proximity to a number of medieval towns such as Spoleto, Assisi, Bevagna, Perugia, Spello, Trevi, Foligno and Todi, makes it a favourite location for those who prefer cultural holidays yet at the same time staying close to nature.

Montefalco (historical notes)
Montefalco overlooks the large valley running from Perugia to Spoleto, for which reason it has been given the name of “Terrace of Umbria”. Because of its frescoes Montefalco is considered to be a sanctuary of Umbro-Tuscan art.

Montefalco has been an important centre since Roman times; in the Middle Ages it was called Coccorone. In 1249 it was devastated by the troops of Frederick II, but was rapidly rebuilt with its present name.
Subsequently Montefalco became a free “Comune”, headed first by “Consoli” (a group of magistrates forming a governing body), and later by a succession of single leaders with the title of “Podestà” which was given to the chief magistrate in a medieval Italian municipality.

From 1320 to 1355 Montefalco was the seat of the curia of the Duchy of Spoleto. From 1383 to 1439 Montefalco was subjugated by the Trinci family of Foligno. From 1446 to 1860 Montefalco reverted to rule by the Church under which it was granted a measure of self-government. Montefalco achieved city status in 1848.
